Passivity (noun): A state of accepting whatever happens without any action or resistance.

Everyone has those days when you just feel unmotivated or uninspired. But we don’t want to get stuck there.

Here are three ways to activate a career re-fresh:

  1. Find out if your company pays for college tuition or professional development training. If they don’t offer anything now, you might be able to negotiate for financial assistance during your annual performance review. More companies are starting to support career development. Cisco, for example, is planning to upskill 250,000 people by 2020 and Starbucks already offers employees fully funded online degrees.
  2. Reduce passive activities that don’t contribute to your quality of life and replace them with micro-moments of learning. On average, people will spend more than five years of their lives on social media and YouTube, according to a study by Mediakix. Consider repurposing some of that time to boost your professional knowledge instead.
  3. Explore online programs to gain credentials, build applicable job skills, and become an expert in your industry. As more organizations invest in education and training, the job market is only going to get more competitive. Now is the time to get ahead of the curve.
